Juvederm Voluma is a hyaluronic acid cosmetic filler that is used most commonly to restore lost volume in the mid-face and cheekbone areas. The pricing of Juvederm varies, and patients frequently wonder what the best price is and how to get the best value for their money. There are two common pricing models for Juvederm, by the syringe and by treatment area. Getting the best value for your money also means choosing not only the best price, but the right provider.

The Two Pricing Models for Juvederm Voluma

The first pricing model for Juvederm Voluma is pricing per syringe. In New York City, that cost of Juvederm Voluma is generally anywhere from $800 to $1200 per syringe. Some providers will discount this price if multiple syringes are applied.

The second pricing model is pricing by treatment area; in this model, there is a set cost per area being treated and this method is not dependent on the number of syringes required. Under this pricing structure, the price is based upon getting results and the provider aims to reach a satisfactory result. If you require multiple syringes, paying for treatment by area may be cheaper than paying for each syringe individually.

Wondering how many syringes it takes to treat a particular area? A study on Juvederm’s effectiveness, longevity and safety demonstrated an average of 6 syringes were used per patient. By using multiple syringes there is bound to be a better response and one that lasts longer, but at a higher cost.

Getting The Best Value For Your Money

Choosing the right provider for your Juvederm treatment is the best way to ensure you are getting the most for your money. The goal of treatment is to reach the patient’s satisfaction level, meaning the results look good and last a long time. Knowing how to place fillers is an artistic visual skill, and we recommend choosing an expert in aesthetic injectables medicine. A physician who devotes their entire practice to this specialty is often a good choice. Expert providers are well versed in getting the best result by treating the whole face with a combination of different types of fillers, in as little as a single session.

Common Mistakes That May Affect The Cost Of Juvederm

There are a couple of common mistakes clients make when purchasing Juvederm Voluma treatment. These mistakes may cost more in the long run. Client’s who choose to purchase one syringe per session over multiple sessions may pay more over time. Another common problem is “provider discount or online coupon shopping” or consistently changing providers just to find the best price at the time. Unfortunately, treatments by multiple providers may result in something called “stacking.” Stacking occurs when hyaluronic acid fillers are injected in the same place and plane on the face multiple times by different providers which in turn may result in puffiness and a less than natural result. You will most likely get the best results and save money if you remain with the same provider who knows your face and cosmetic filler injection history.

To get the best price and best value for your money, choose a provider who has experience in providing a complete result and speak with them about your ultimate goals. Ask to see before and after photos; these photos should demonstrate results in the entire face, not just your desired treatment area.

Under Eye Bag Treatments: 5 Facts You Need To Know https://www.vervelaser.com/under-eye-bag-treatments-5-facts/ https://www.vervelaser.com/under-eye-bag-treatments-5-facts/#respond Fri, 27 Mar 2020 23:39:31 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/under-eye-bag-treatments-5-facts-you-need-to-know/

Before you start spending money on over-the-counter under eye bag treatments, concealers and tea bags, it is important to understand the cause of under eye bags and the medical treatments options available.

1. What Really Causes Under Eye Bags?

The main reason we develop under eye bags is a loss of supportive foundational structures below our skin including muscle, bone, and fat. The loss of support and foundation causes our skin to fold and crease differently leading to eye bags.

2. What Are The Key Medical Treatments for Treating Under Eye Bags?

The two main medical treatment options for under eye bags are a plastic surgical procedure called lower Blepharoplasty or non- surgical cosmetic filler injections. Dr. Stephen Bracci’s trademark procedure EyeRise is one such non-surgical cosmetic filler treatment.

- Under Eye Bag Treatments: 5 Facts You Need To Know - Verve Cosmetics NYC

3. How Does Surgery For Under Eye Bags Work?

During a Blepharoplasty procedure, the skin and tissue near the eye bags is cut, removed and/or repositioned. The goal of cutting and repositioning these tissues, is to modify the appearance of the creases and the bags under the eyes. The advantage of Blepharoplasty surgery is a more long term modification of the eye bags. However, the trade-off is the permanent change itself, due to the fact that the skin is cut and tissues are moved. Moreover additional surgeries may be needed in the future because you will continue to lose support below the skin as you age. Choosing an experienced plastic surgeon specializing in the procedure with an extensive portfolio is a good way to ensure the best outcome.

4. How Do Non Surgical Injection Procedures Work?

The goal of cosmetic filler procedures is to modify the appearance of creases and folds without cutting the skin, but rather to move the skin back to its original position. During the procedure, cosmetic fillers such as Belotero, Restylane and Radiesse are injected below the skin to fill in and add back lost support . These injections in turn lift the skin from underneath and move it towards its “original” position, not a “new” position. The main reason people choose cosmetic fillers over surgery is they prefer a more natural-look result and do not want cutting or surgical downtime. People choosing under-eye fillers should understand that future yearly visits are recommended to keep the under-eye appearing constantly refreshed. The reason people choose this ongoing approach is that they wish to avoid surgery and they like the flexibility of adjusting the results each year as you continually age. The physician you choose to work with should have extensive experience in both treating the under-eye area as well as proficiency in using a specialized injection instrument called a cannula. An experienced injector will use a combination of fillers and properly treat the entire under-eye area comprehensively. Costs for a comprehensive treatment are based upon both a more extensive treatment and better cosmetic outcomes.

5. Will Under Eye Treatments Stop The Aging Process?

No, neither surgical nor the non-surgical cosmetic filler injections procedures will completely stop the “regular aging process” You will continue to lose the supportive structures under your skin as you age. However Cosmetic fillers may aid in making the actual skin appear better since they aid in collagen stimulation.

Cosmetic filler injections procedures such as the EyeRise, exclusively available at Verve Medical Cosmetics in New York and New Jersey, are intended to aid in collagen stimulation to help the skin’s appearance as we age. In addition Eyerise is intended to adjust for ongoing age-related changes on a consistent basis and maintain results. As you age, EyeRise improvements are maintained and adjusted to meet your changing needs as you age, and to keep a rejuvenated and refreshed natural appearance.

Forehead Wrinkle Treatments: Combining Botox and Cosmetic Fillers for Natural Results https://www.vervelaser.com/forehead-wrinkle-treatments/ https://www.vervelaser.com/forehead-wrinkle-treatments/#respond Tue, 24 Mar 2020 14:16:14 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/forehead-wrinkle-treatments-combining-botox-and-cosmetic-fillers-for-natural-results/

Combining both botox and fillers is the most comprehensive way to treat moderate to severe forehead wrinkle lines. Botox works to block the wrinkles from movement (dynamic wrinkles) and fillers work to fill in the wrinkles seen at rest (static wrinkles.)

Every time you show your true face to the world and change your facial expression the skin on your forehead wrinkles due to the movement of the frontalis muscle. The movement of this muscle causes dynamic wrinkles (movement wrinkles). Dynamic wrinkles (movement wrinkles) are visible every time you make a face and the frontalis muscle moves. However over time static wrinkles (resting lines) develop due to the damage to the skin from movement. These wrinkles develop over time due to the loss of collagen from the repetitive movement of the frontalis muscle. Just as static and dynamic wrinkles have different causes, they have different treatments, Botox and cosmetic fillers. Understanding how and when the two treatments are used will allow you to show your true face to the world without worrying about the consequences to your forehead.

Treating Dynamic Forehead Wrinkles With Botox

When you are younger, before static wrinkles form, treating mild to moderate dynamic forehead wrinkles (movement wrinkles) with neuromodulators, may be enough. Neuromodulators, including Botox, Juveau, and Xeomin, are muscle relaxers and prevent the frontalis muscle from bending as frequently and as severely. When you make a facial expression after treatment with a neuromodulator, the frontalis muscle will not move as much and fewer wrinkles will appear. Treating dynamic wrinkles with Botox early may help prevent the formation of static wrinkles later on. Neuromodulators are not an effective treatment for static wrinkles.

Treating Static Forehead Wrinkles With A Combination of Botox & Cosmetic Fillers

The most effective treatment for static forehead wrinkles (wrinkles at rest) is cosmetic fillers. Cosmetic filler injectables re-support the collagen lost by repetitive, long term movement of the frontalis. Cosmetic fillers, including Restylane, Belotero, Voluma, Juvederm, and Versa, fill in the lines where the skin is most damaged, smoothing out static wrinkles. Combining cosmetic fillers and neuromodulators will treat both static and dynamic wrinkles at the same time.

How Often Should I Get My Forehead Wrinkles Treated & How Long Do Treatments Last?

It is important to remember that the frequency of treatment varies from person to person based on individual needs and desired results. For most people whom Dr. Bracci treats at Verve studios in New York City or Paramus, New Jersey, Botox is administered 3-4 times a year to treat dynamic wrinkles. The effect of a single treatment can last approximately three months.

The combination of cosmetic fillers and Botox to treat dynamic and static forehead wrinkles is usually done once a year. The filler component of treatment may last anywhere from six months to several years, depending on the severity of the forehead wrinkles and how consistently the Botox treatments are applied. The effect of filler treatments will persist longer if Botox is in place to prevent the movement of the frontalis muscle from moving the skin so much.

No matter what Botox or dermal filler injectable treatment you choose, it should be administered by an experienced provider. An experienced provider will ensure the personalization of treatment and the best possible natural-looking results. Note: use of fillers in the forehead to treat wrinkles is considered off label.

As an expert in anti-aging and aesthetics, I am here to tell you about the 6 common sense factors you can control to look and feel your best at your age. After all, how you live your life will be the major determinant of how you look and how you feel.

There are six critical factors that are under our control affecting our appearance: poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, drinking, lack of mental stimulation, and sleep deprivation. Controlling or eliminating these six factors all-together may reduce the need for age-reversing treatments later.

- 6 Common Sense Reasons Why Men Look Older Than They Are - Verve Cosmetics NYC

YOUR DIET IS IMPORTANT

The majority of every meal should be plant-based. However, this is not the case for most of us in the Western World. The China Study is one of the most comprehensive studies ever done on the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease. This study found that places where people tend to eat mostly plants and fewer animal products have a lower risk for heart disease and cancer. The key point is that places where people ate both the fewest animal proteins and animal fats had the lowest risk for heart disease and cancer. If you are interested in eating a more whole plant-based diet, explore meal plans from the Mediterranean style diet. This diet has wide-ranging food selections and primarily fresh plant-based diet.

LACK OF EXERCISE

Exercise, at the cellular level, has been shown to protect and keep our insides and skin looking and feeling younger. As we age, our cells tend to shorten, causing us to look older. Fortunately, a proper exercise routine can reverse this, helping us to maintain the length of our cells and in turn our natural youthful appearance. In spite of knowing this, many of us complain that we cannot find the time to exercise in our schedules. However, exercise does not have to be time-consuming. HIIT, high-intensity interval training, with short duration sessions of cardiovascular or strength training, are effective and non-time consuming. These exercises can be done at home and with minimal equipment.

SMOKING AFFECTS OUR ENTIRE BODY

Smoking affects both our inner and outer body. On the inside, it negatively affects every organ system, shortening our lives. On the outside, it affects our appearance by wrinkling the skin and causing us to look older than we are.

TOO MUCH DRINKING ADDS YEARS

The studies that hyped one glass of red wine per day as beneficial, are now starting to come into question. Alcohol is linked to higher occurrences of prostate and colon cancers, and drinking adds years to your appearance.

LACK OF MENTAL STIMULATION

People who do not engage in daily mental challenges are more susceptible to early dementia and depression. Early retirement is a risk factor for these conditions. But if you do retire, keep busy and your mind and body will thank you. The key to healthy longevity is engaging your brain daily for a higher purpose.

SLEEP DEPRIVATION IS A COMMON PROBLEM

Lack of sleep links to multiple health problems including heart disease, weight gain, and depression. Sleep deprivation is an all too common problem. Many people now use apps that track sleep patterns. However, you do not need an app to get enough sleep. You may want to consider going to sleep when you are tired and waking naturally each morning.

Men, there are a multitude of options to help you look younger. Once an option just for women, injectables such as Fillers and Botox even hormone maintenance, are available for men. When done by an expert, no one will ever even know you had anything done. In addition to these lifestyle interventions, it is important to adjust your lifestyle to control the six factors.

Why Are My Smile Lines Getting Deeper? https://www.vervelaser.com/smile-line-causes/ https://www.vervelaser.com/smile-line-causes/#respond Thu, 30 Jan 2020 18:41:03 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/why-are-my-smile-lines-getting-deeper/ The nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines, are the lines that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Nasolabial folds are a natural crease, occurring where many of the facial muscles are anchored to our facial bones. The nasolabial folds are prominently visible in babies, and tend to smooth out as we become teenagers, and again become more prominently visible as we age.

- Why Are My Smile Lines Getting Deeper? - Verve Cosmetics NYC

Why Do The Nasolabial Folds Get Deeper?

The deepening of the nasolabial fold is the result of the loss of support under the skin. During the aging process, we lose tissues under our skin including bone, muscle and fat. This tissue loss results in sagging skin; the nasolabial folds are among the first places where sagging skin is visible. Common reasons why people have deeper nasolabial folds are genetic predisposition, weight loss, bone loss ,loss of teeth , and the natural loss of tissues under the skin as we age.

What Is The Most Effective Treatment For Nasolabial Folds?

Cosmetic filler injections are an effective treatment for nasolabial folds. Fillers re-support the loss of structure under the skin, smoothing the deepening nasolabial folds. Early in the aging process, the appearance of nasolabial folds is mild to moderate. During that time, we can smooth these lines simply by filling nasolabial folds alone. Fillers can actually result in long term collagen build up , referred to as biostimulation, which adds more of your own body tissue. The idea is that cosmetic fillers can actually trigger our immune system to aid in building supportive collagen structures that aid our skin beyond just filling in the skin.

However, as the aging process progresses the nasolabial folds deepen. Effective treatment requires lifting and filling adjacent areas of the face in addition to the lines themselves. For example, during Verve’s BaseLift™ procedure, dermal fillers are applied to the cheekbone area near the sides of the face, and also the underside of the jawline in addition to the nasolabial folds themselves. The result is to not only fill in the nasolabial folds but to lift the skin from the outer parts of the face to restore the overall shape and architecture.

Can I Get Nasolabial Filler Treatments In My 20s and Will That Help Prevent Them?

Some 20 year olds may choose to receive cosmetic fillers because they have a genetic predisposition, weight loss, or even loss of bone around the teeth causing the folds to be deeper.

Filler treatments beginning at the first discovery of folds can help rebuild collagen and assist in the prevention and/or the severity of future nasolabial folds. So starting early may be a tremendous boost for prevention.

Why Get a VI Peel this Winter? https://www.vervelaser.com/verve-vi-chemical-peel-winter-treatment/ https://www.vervelaser.com/verve-vi-chemical-peel-winter-treatment/#respond Tue, 14 Jan 2020 22:42:10 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/why-get-a-vi-peel-this-winter/ Do you wish there was a way to tackle and repair dry, dull winter skin?

There is, the ViPeel at Verve: a medical-grade chemical peel, exclusive to medical professionals to ensure the best possible results for all skin tones. This anti-aging peel softens fine lines and wrinkles, helps correct rough texture, dull skin, acne, and rosacea. It also targets and helps corrects hyperpigmentation like uneven skin tone, sunspots, and even post- inflammatory acne hyperpigmentation, the brown spots you may see for several weeks after picking at acne.

- Why Get a VI Peel this Winter? - Verve Cosmetics NYC

Why get a VIPeel at Verve this winter?

Great for men and women; the ViPeel will leave your skin feeling smoother and looking revitalized in as little as 7 days. If that fact combined with Verve’s 20 Year Special Offer Saving up to $699 wasn’t enough motivation, let’s delve a little bit into the experience behind this simple, industry-leading, anti-aging procedure.

What will you experience?

Treatment time is about 15-30 minutes; during this time, you may experience a mild tingling effect. As soon as the professional application of specifically chosen, synergistic gentle acids begin, the acids start to go to work on the outer layers of the skin. As the week progresses, the acids will continue to treat the deeper Dermis. You will leave the office looking like you have a slight tan, and carrying a targeted at-home skincare kit, to accelerate and maintain the active peeling. Included the kit is a soothing cream to help calm the skin during the peeling process, and a medical-grade SPF, like Verve’s Firm Commitment Mineral Sheer Face Sunscreen SPF 50+. Sun protection with SPF is essential during the exfoliation process for long term maintenance of and improved results. Do not worry; we will go over home care before you leave the office and be here for you during your exfoliation week ready to address any concerns you may have.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Skin peeling generally starts on the 3rd day through the 7th day after treatment. If you receive the peel on a Wednesday evening, you should begin peeling on by the weekend. Peeling will typically start from around the mouth outwards on the face. You can use the soothing cream as any peeling continues- and yes, you can even wear makeup if desired! It is important to not pull or pick at any peeling, as this can cause scarring. Will you visibly peel every time? Not necessarily. The ViPeel works with the skin condition you have now to improve it, and your skin may exfoliate microscopically, and you won’t have any visible downtime at all. The amount of visible peeling may change during subsequent peels, which will continue to reveal newer skin during the accelerated cell turnover.

When is the best time to receive a VIPeel?

When deciding when to schedule your ViPeel, it is important to keep in mind that the procedure may involve some downtime when your skin is visibly peeling. At Verve, we will work with you to schedule your treatment to make sure you have the least downtime possible.

What makes VIPeel one of the leaders in the industry?

Vitamins and minerals are packed in this peel to nourish the skin during the process of exfoliation and skin renewal!

On the occasion of his 20th Anniversary, Dr. Stephen Bracci, Founder and Medical Director of Verve Medical Cosmetics talks about how perceptions of beauty have changed.

Verve Medical’s BaseLift non-surgical facial restoration treatment uses cosmetic fillers to re-support the architecture of the face and restore a more youthful, rested appearance without producing the traditional ‘plastic’ look. “Twenty years ago, when we opened our doors, the concept of beauty was owned by the young,” said Dr. Bracci. “Those seeking to hold back the effects of time had one option – plastic surgery. It was drastic, obvious and didn’t remedy the main reason faces appear older – the loss of support under the skin. The skin was cut away and stretched to a new position. People had less sagging skin, but also looked dramatically different.”

From the onset, Dr. Bracci took a different approach and focused on the underlying structure of the face. His revolutionary BaseLift™ and EYERISE™ non-surgical facial restoration treatments used cosmetic fillers to re-support the architecture of the face and restore a more youthful, rested appearance without producing the traditional ‘plastic’ look.

It’s an approach that is in keeping with today’s trends. “Beauty has gone beyond superficial adornments such as makeup, hairstyles and jewelry, to a more simplistic approach,” said Dr. Bracci. “Beauty today is successful aging – looking well rested, fit and natural. You don’t have to look any further than celebrities from Beyonce to Jennifer Lopez to Tyra Banks who embrace their bare face to see how far we have come. In fact, the hashtag #NoMakeUp has more than 18 million posts on Instagram at last glance.”

While Dr. Bracci believes that cosmetic injectables will continue to be a large part of aging well, he counsels that lifestyle has never been more important. “Beauty in 2020 is not what we wear; it’s about what we do. Choices such as nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, sleep and minimizing toxins, such as tobacco and alcohol are all integral to aging well,” he said. “If we live well and treat our bodies well, then we can age successfully. Beautiful aging is now an option. Rusting is not.”

According to Dr. Bracci, the three things that people can do to hold onto a lifetime of beauty are:

Nutrition – eat more plant-based foods and minimize processed carbohydrates, sugars, meats, tobacco, drugs and alcohol.
Regular exercise – including full body strength, and intense cardiovascular engagement.
Rest and Relax – get enough sleep and embrace a mindful and spiritual approach to reduce stress.
And, when all else fails, talk with your Doctor. “Don’t be afraid to consider injectables to prevent wrinkle damage or maintain the shape of your face,” said Dr. Bracci. “Your mother was right. Beauty does begin on the inside.”

Take Action: Establishing Healthy Habits https://www.vervelaser.com/action-plan-for-healthy-habits/ https://www.vervelaser.com/action-plan-for-healthy-habits/#respond Thu, 09 May 2019 01:06:22 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/take-action-establishing-healthy-habits/ Many of us make a commitment to ourselves to lead a healthier life but in spite of our promise very little changes. This is because it takes more than a promise to make lifestyle changes; establishing healthy habits as part of everyday life takes focus, commitment and a clear plan of action.

My current lifestyle includes a plant-based diet with fish for protein. The focus of my exercise plan is strength and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). I make sure to get plenty of sleep, waking naturally and drinking plenty of water each day. Alcohol is a treat and not a habit.

To make these lifestyle changes a reality, I didn’t do it all at once. Instead, I created an action plan that consisted of one healthy change per week.

- Take Action: Establishing Healthy Habits - Verve Cosmetics NYC

I started my plan with a commitment to walk at least 4 times per week and build from there. Next, I focused on healthy eating, beginning with cutting processed food out of each meal and replacing them with fruits, vegetables and nuts.

Change can be hard, so to stay on track. I suggest keeping track of your progress with a journal, celebrating your successes and noting where you still need work. Most importantly, reward yourself for making progress, buy those jeans you never thought you could wear or take a refreshing cat nap on a Sunday afternoon. You owe it to yourself to feel great about yourself and make your commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle a reality. I am intrigued by how people’s lifestyle can affect the aging process, both physically, mentally and of course, aesthetically. The best part – get started today, and you will age more youthfully.

Non-Surgical Facelift vs Surgical Facelift: What’s the Difference? https://www.vervelaser.com/facelift_vs_non_surgical_facelift_whats_the_difference/ https://www.vervelaser.com/facelift_vs_non_surgical_facelift_whats_the_difference/#respond Wed, 01 May 2019 20:49:56 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/non-surgical-facelift-vs-surgical-facelift-whats-the-difference/ Any discussion about how to treat facial changes must begin with an understanding of the primary cause of sagging and folding skin. As we age, the shape of our face changes due to the loss/erosion of the supportive structures below the skin. These supporting structures, known as the Foundation, consist of bone, muscle, connective tissue, and fat. The loss of these supportive structures causes a hollowing effect below the skin, and the appearance of facial folds and sagging on the skin. The options to repair this condition are either a surgical facelift or a non-surgical BaseLift.

Facelift – The Surgical Option

The surgical option reshapes the face by cutting the skin and moving the tissues. The procedure permanently removes and repositions the skin and tissues of the face in an effort to reduce the appearance of sagging skin on the face. The skin is cut and stretched over the hollow areas below the skin, moving the skin to a new position.

The results are permanent and cannot be altered. Although a facelift is considered to be permanent, most individuals will experience additional skin sagging and folding as they age. Some individuals who have had a facelift may begin to look even more distorted over time due to the sagging and folding that continues after the facelift

Watch: Dr. Bracci performs the BaseLift in one lunchtime appointment.

BaseLift – The Non Surgical Option

The BaseLift procedure is a non surgical facelift option that differs from a facelift in a few ways. The biggest difference is it is non-surgical, so there is no cutting or moving of the skin or removal of tissue. The results are not permanent and can be adjusted.

The goal of the BaseLift is direct targeting and restoration of the foundation, the main source of our sagging skin and folds. During the procedure I use a cannula to inject different types of cosmetic fillers under the skin to compensate for the lost foundation, re-supporting the sagging skin and moving the skin closer to its original position. The primary reason people choose BaseLift over surgery is not wanting to cut or move the skin of the face, nor wanting to make permanent changes to the face.

****************

There is no such thing as a one-filler-fits-all for the face. During a BaseLift procedure, I consider the complete facial architecture to target the right filler (firm or soft) in the correct location.

The results – Individuals leave my studio looking like more like themselves, refreshed and revived with their natural glow shining through. The cosmetic fillers applied are not permanent, and adjustments can be made as we age. I advise yearly visits to maintain the best results, but most people choose less frequent visits.

Choosing whether surgery or cosmetic fillers are right for you is a lifestyle decision and should be based on your individual goals. Whichever option you select, for the best results, work with either a surgeon who limits their practice to facelifts or a physician who dedicates their entire practice to cosmetic injectables.

During your consultation, an extensive before and after portfolio will be presented to you, making it easier for you to decide if the professional’s results coincide with your best self-image.

My Lips Are Shrinking – Is This Real? https://www.vervelaser.com/fillers-for-shrinking-lips/ https://www.vervelaser.com/fillers-for-shrinking-lips/#respond Tue, 16 Apr 2019 20:52:17 +0000 https://www.vervelaser.com/my-lips-are-shrinking-is-this-real/ Yes, as we age, our lips shrink. They lose their plumpness, becoming both thinner and longer. Why does this happen? Straight and simple, the cause is related to the aging process. As the rest of our body feels the effects of hormone changes so do our lips. Though more prevalent in women, men also experience shrinking lips.

Typically, between our late teens and early twenties, our hormonal levels increase, adding plumpness to our lips. However, like anything else all good lips must come to an end and after hitting peak levels our hormones start to decrease and our lips become longer and thinner resulting in a deflated droopy appearance.

As you may have figured out from the media, a remedy for this lip shrinking phenomena is dermal filler injections. However, what the media and many inexperienced injectors usually ignore is effective treatment is a complete approach. Effective treatment of shrinking lips requires addressing two separate issues, the plumpness of the lips and the shape of the mouth area around the lips. The most effective method to restore lip plumpness is Hyaluronic acid (HA) cosmetic fillers like Restylane or Juvederm injected directly into the lips to restore their plumpness. HA fillers are the most effective fillers for lip plumping because they are gels that hold water giving the appearance of fuller plump lips.

For the most natural looking results, the overall shape of the mouth must be addressed through the treatment of the surrounding areas. If the lips are plump but the areas around the mouth are hollow then the lip filler treatment can look obvious and unnatural. The exact lines requiring treatment are the ones from the nose to the corner of the mouth, the nasolabial folds, and the ones below the corners of the mouth, marionette lines. Injecting fillers into these areas restores support and the natural shape and appearance of the entire mouth area.

Bottom line, when reversing the lip shrinking syndrome make sure filling the areas around the mouth are of equal importance to plumping your lips. For the best results work with a physician whose practice is dedicated to injectables on a full-time basis. At Verve I have dedicated my practice to cosmetic injectables for the past 20 years, schedule a consultation or treatment today and I will work with you to restore your natural glow
