What are Marionette lines?
Marionette lines are the lines, or creases, that appear at the corners of the mouth and extend downward towards the chin.
How do Marionette lines form?
Marionette lines form as we age and lose the supportive structures below the skin.
Is there anything in particular that causes them to appear?
Like most forms of facial sagging, aging is the major component of under skin volume loss that leads to marionette lines. Other conditions that can accelerate the appearance of marionette lines include weight loss as well as bone and tooth loss. Additionally, a history of chin implants may impact the formation of marionette lines.
How are Marionette lines treated?
Marionette lines may be treated with cosmetic fillers to lift the skin in this area and to support the skin in the mid-face and jawline area. Treatment of these areas may be considered an off-label use of cosmetic fillers.
