What Are Lip Fillers?
Lip fillers are a non-surgical treatment that uses cosmetic fillers to add volume to the lips. A lip filler treatment is performed with the use of cosmetic fillers that are derived from a naturally occurring compound called. Some of the most widely used Hyaluronic Acid based fillers include Juvederm, Restylane, and Blotter.
What do you mean by ‘naturally occurring compound’?
Hyaluronic acids are naturally occurring molecules in the human body. Skin, cartilage, and nervous tissues are parts of the body that naturally contain Hyaluronic acid.
How is a lip filler procedure performed?
The treatment consists of a series of injections of filler to both the upper and bottom lips. Your physician may choose from one of several fillers, however, doctors most often use Juvederm to treat the lips. There are many different techniques for filling the lips. One common method involves three or four injections for the lower lip and another 3-4 injections for the upper lip.
Many of the Hyaluronic fillers, such as Juvederm, are pre-mixed with a numbing agent to reduce any discomfort that may occur during the injection. Some practitioners may apply a numbing cream prior to treatment while others often use a high-intensity vibration to distract and reduce the feeling of pain. At Verve, we typically use the high-intensity vibration as this is shown to further avoid swelling.
How much swelling can I expect?
The amount of swelling varies depending on both the individual as well as how the treatment is performed. To minimize swelling, an experienced injector may do things such as minimize the number of injection spots, inject at a medium depth, and administer the injections very slowly.
The amount of downtime is minimal. Most clients are able to resume normal social activity shortly after their treatment.
