Which Cosmetic Dermal Filler Injectable is Right for Me? | Types of Injectable Dermal Fillers

When considering a non-surgical cosmetic injectable treatment, the type of injectable fillers that will be used may be the last thing on your mind. There are many different types of dermal fillers that your cosmetic surgeon can choose while performing a procedure. We have  the most popular fillers that are used during a cosmetic treatment to give you an idea of what each of them are used for and what Dr. Bracci likes to use to achieve the best results.

What are the different types of cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers?

  • Botox: Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a neurotoxin that helps to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Botox is typically injected in the vertical lines between the eyebrows (Glabella) , lines around the eyes (Crow’s Feet), and horizontal lines on the forehead area. Botox works by blocking the signals that cause our facial muscles to contract. It is able to relax the muscles and in return, eliminate the patient’s wrinkles.
  • Sculptra: Sculptra is a cosmetic filler that helps to stimulate collagen in our body. Made from Poly-L-Lactic acid (PLLA), a collagen stimulator, Sculptra helps to restore your skin’s volume and reproduce collagen that has been lost. It can last up to 2-4 years whereas a hyaluronic acid filler such as Juvederm lasts maybe 10-14 months. Hyaluronic acid fillers are not Poly-L-Lactic acid collagen stimulators. Sculptra is most commonly used to treat the nasolabial folds, marionette lines and deep wrinkles and folds.  It is also a leading cosmetic filler for non-surgical BBL buttocks contouring procedures.
  • Radiesse: Radiesse is one of Dr. Bracci’s favorite products to use. Made from calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral that is found in our bones, Radiesse can add back lost volume in the nasolabial folds and most areas of the face to add support underneath the skin as well as stimulate collagen in our body.At VERVE Medical Cosmetics we use Radiesse in our BaseLift™ non-surgical facelift procedure to help our clients achieve the most natural and longer lasting results. During the BaseLift™ cosmetic procedure, Dr. Bracci injects dermal fillers to help enhance facial architecture and support lost support underneath the skin. Radiesse the dermal filler of choice, offers instant results, stimulates collagen and can last up to 2 years. Radiesse also is FDA approved to contour the  jawline.  Additionally, Radiesse is FDA-approved for the hands.
  • Restylane: Most commonly, Restylane is used to plump a client’s cheeks, lips, and marionette lines. Composed of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Restylane is the first HA filler approved by the FDA for use in the United States.
  • Juvéderm: Juvéderm is an injectable dermal filler that is made of Hyaluronic Acid and can be used to treat wrinkle lines and folds. There are four different types of Juvéderm including Voluma XC to contour chin and cheeks, XC and Vollure XC to create smoother facial features (such as nasolabial folds), and Juvéderm Vobella XC and Ultra XC which is used in lips.
  • Xeomin: Xeomin is typically used to reduce wrinkles between the eyebrows or flabella area, as well as Crows Feet around the eyes. It is a purified form of neurotoxin which means that any of the non-contributing accessory proteins were removed.
  • Belotero: Also known as Belotero Balance, is a Hyaluronic Acid filler that works to fill in wrinkles or lines caused by aging or loss of collagen production in the skin. Belotero is used at VERVE Medical Cosmetics in our exclusive non-surgical eye bag removal procedure, EyeRise™. In addition, Belotero is used to treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, vertical lip lines, and smile lines to smooth the skin.
  • Revanesse Versa: Used to restore and replenish lost volume in the skin, Revanesse Versa is a hyaluronic acid based cosmetic filler. Revanesse Versa is used to treat folds and creases in the facial skin to return it to a youthful, smooth appearance.

How are these cosmetic injectables used to get rid of my lines and wrinkles?

When these fillers are injected into the problem areas of the face, they work to fill in unwanted lines and wrinkles as well as stimulate collagen that may have been lost due to the natural aging process. Certain fillers work better for certain areas of the face and body, which is why it’s important to schedule a consultation with your provider to go over your cosmetic goals.

How long will my filler treatment last?

Each client is a completely new canvas for your provider to work with which also means that certain fillers work better for different clients. It is important to remember that facial fillers are not a permanent solution to facial wrinkles but they do offer a much more natural-looking cosmetic solution than some invasive cosmetic surgical procedures. Fillers injected into the face can last anywhere from several months or up to a year, individual results will vary based on client.
