Nasolabial Folds better known as Smile Lines

What are nasolabial folds?

Also known as smile lines or laugh lines, nasolabial folds are the creases that run from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. They’re completely normal. But for many of us, they become more pronounced with age.

As the deeper support structures under the cheeks and midface begin to wear down, the skin starts to sag and fold over these areas. That drooping creates a deeper crease and more shadow, which can make you look more tired or aged than you feel.

What causes smile lines to form?

Aging is the primary cause, but factors like weight loss, bone loss (including from tooth loss), and smoking can all accelerate nasolabial fold formation.

What can I do to treat smile lines without surgery?

There are two main approaches to nasolabial fold treatment. One involves placing filler directly beneath the fold to soften the crease. The second, often more effective, approach is to restore support in the midface and outer cheek area using techniques like BaseLift™. This lifts the skin upward rather than just filling it in.

Which filler is best for laugh lines?

Filler for laugh lines usually involves a firmer filler such as Radiesse or Sculptra, along with small amounts of  hyaluronic acid-based options like Juvederm or Restylane. We will select the right one based on your facial structure and goals.

Does getting smile line filler hurt?

Most people report only minor discomfort, and numbing agents are often used to make the process even more comfortable.
