What is Eye Bag Surgery, Lower Lid Blepharoplasty?

Eye bag surgery, also referred to as lower lid blepharoplasty or lower lid eyelid surgery,
– is a cosmetic procedure used to correct sagging skin or wrinkles under the eye.

As we age, we lose muscle, bone, and fat, which causes the skin under our eyes to wrinkle and sag.  People may select an eye bag surgery “blepharoplasty” procedure alone, or combine it with a face lift, or a plastic surgery for the brows or upper eyelid.

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed by an oculoplastic surgeon and may result in weeks of downtime and runs the risk of infection and/or permanent scarring.

There are many reasons why people select a blepharoplasty surgery, however depending on your under eye bag condition you may be a candidate for a non-surgical eye bag procedure with cosmetic injectables.  At VERVE this procedure is called the EyeRise™ created and performed by Dr. Stephen Bracci in his studios in New York City, New Jersey, Westchester, Garden City Long Island and opening in Miami this fall.

If a non-surgical treatment with cosmetic injectables is chosen, we recommend choosing a dedicated under eye filler expert. We suggest seeking a physician or expert injector whose practice focuses solely on injectable procedures and is expert in the use of the cannula device.  The cannula device is the preferred device in providing more advanced treatments. The cannula, with its dull flexible tip, passes within the sub-dermal space with much less bruising than a needle; with fewer to no bruises, the physician can see the treatment area more clearly; allowing for more precise injections of fillers with a much better outcome.

The under eye area is the most difficult area to treat with cosmetic injections and an experienced physician injector is critical. Check your provider’s years in the practice of cosmetic injectables, review before and after galleries and websites carefully. Referrals are often the way to go.
