The Fountain of Youthful Injectables: The Real Truth about Wrinkles

What you think you knew about facial aging and wrinkles may not be the truth. Before you go out and buy the next best expensive wrinkle cream, you may want to read this article. What really makes our skin fold and wrinkle? We all know some of the common factors that cause facial wrinkles. Smoking, sun damage and stress are just a few. And yes, the outer layers of our skin do change a bit as we age, so skin care products can be beneficial in treating the outer layer of the skin. Surface layer aside, the biggest change in complexion that we rarely hear about is the loss of volume underneath our skin, or the foundation under our skin. This loss of volume is the real cause of wrinkles, folds and sagging skin, and is the primary condition that needs to be treated first. Eventually, the loss of this…

Beauty and the Brow

Not a day goes by without reading something about beautiful eyebrows. Whether it’s a new fashion trend, like Cara Delevingne’s thick, natural shaped brows or the latest brow enhancer from Hollywood’s favorite make-up experts, it seems like everyone has a tip on how to keep those brows beautiful.   Before getting into products or trends, it’s important to understand a few facts about our eyebrows. Our bodies work in specific ways, and understanding these basic biological facts will help you to maintain beautiful, long-lasting brows!   Eyebrows Have Their Own Lifespan The average person has between 250-500 hairs per eyebrow. Each of these hairs has an average lifespan of four months and take twice as long to grow back as hairs on many other parts of the body. Eyebrows that go un-groomed have an average of 1,000 or more hairs, so get those trimmers out if you wish to avoid…

Hyaluronic Acid: A Quick Primer

If you’ve been researching dermal fillers, you’ve probably heard of Hyaluronic Acid. You also probably know that Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance found in the human body. What may not be clear is why it’s used in injections at places like Verve Medical Cosmetics. Without diving into a minor biology lesson, we’d like to shed a little bit more light on what HA is and why it’s used at cosmetic medical studios like ours. Read below to learn more about Hyaluronic Acid and how it can be your skin’s best friend! What is Hyaluronic Acid? Hyaluronic Acid is a component of the body’s connective tissue. It functions as a cushion and lubricant for the rest of the cells that work together to make up our connective tissue. It is a substance with a high level of viscosity and elasticity, allowing it to return to its original form after being…

The Difference Between Botox and Fillers

Not a day goes by that I don’t get asked about the difference between Botox and Fillers. So, let me take this opportunity to clear things up for everyone who is also wondering. The basic difference is that Botox works with “muscular movement” whereas cosmetic fillers work by “adding back volume or support underneath the skin” and “in the skin.” To keep it simple, Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkle lines–it simply blocks the muscles that cause the skin to wrinkle. Botox is mainly used to treat the lines near and between the eye area–like “11” lines between your eyes and “crows feet” on the sides of your eyes. If a wrinkle around the eye gets worse with muscle movement such as squinting it may be better treated with Botox. Cosmetic dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, Radiesse and Voluma, to name a few, are different than Botox. Fillers are…

Getting Under Your Skin to Add Volume

I love Radiesse and so do my busy NYC and NJ patients who want to look fresh not fake (and fast). Radiesse is a safe natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. I love it for nasolabial folds–the crevices you are starting to see from the bottom of your nose to your mouth. An experienced physician injector can create a natural fresh look with Radiesse injections by replacing the loss of collagen where you need it most—UNDER your skin. Remember—replacing lost volume with Radiesse or other dermal fillers is the key to instant gratification and painless wrinkle reduction without surgery. Stop by our private aesthetic studios for a complimentary consultation. Call 212.888.3003 or Click here to connect online. I look forward to seeing you.
