6 Common Sense Reasons Why Men Look Older Than They Are

Sure, photo apps can alter the way you look, but even the best of Instagram photographers can’t change how you look and feel in person. As an expert in anti-aging and aesthetics, I am here to tell you about the 6 common sense factors you can control to look and feel your best at your age. After all, how you live your life will be the major determinant of how you look and how you feel. There are six critical factors that are under our control affecting our appearance: poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, drinking, lack of mental stimulation, and sleep deprivation. Controlling or eliminating these six factors all-together may reduce the need for age-reversing treatments later. YOUR DIET IS IMPORTANT The majority of every meal should be plant-based. However, this is not the case for most of us in the Western World. The China Study is one of…

Why Are My Smile Lines Getting Deeper?

The nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines, are the lines that run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Nasolabial folds are a natural crease, occurring where many of the facial muscles are anchored to our facial bones. The nasolabial folds are prominently visible in babies, and tend to smooth out as we become teenagers, and again become more prominently visible as we age. Why Do The Nasolabial Folds Get Deeper? The deepening of the nasolabial fold is the result of the loss of support under the skin. During the aging process, we lose tissues under our skin including bone, muscle and fat. This tissue loss results in sagging skin; the nasolabial folds are among the first places where sagging skin is visible. Common reasons why people have deeper nasolabial folds are genetic predisposition, weight loss, bone loss ,loss of teeth , and the…

Verve Celebrates 20 Years of Aesthetic Medicine!

NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — For 20 years, VERVE Medical Cosmetics, New York’s premier non-surgical aesthetic and anti-aging treatment studio has been helping clients manage the aging process. On the occasion of his 20th Anniversary, Dr. Stephen Bracci, Founder and Medical Director of Verve Medical Cosmetics talks about how perceptions of beauty have changed. Verve Medical’s BaseLift non-surgical facial restoration treatment uses cosmetic fillers to re-support the architecture of the face and restore a more youthful, rested appearance without producing the traditional ‘plastic’ look. “Twenty years ago, when we opened our doors, the concept of beauty was owned by the young,” said Dr. Bracci. “Those seeking to hold back the effects of time had one option – plastic surgery. It was drastic, obvious and didn’t remedy the main reason faces appear older – the loss of support under the skin. The skin was cut away and stretched to…

Take Action: Establishing Healthy Habits

Many of us make a commitment to ourselves to lead a healthier life but in spite of our promise very little changes. This is because it takes more than a promise to make lifestyle changes; establishing healthy habits as part of everyday life takes focus, commitment and a clear plan of action. My current lifestyle includes a plant-based diet with fish for protein. The focus of my exercise plan is strength and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). I make sure to get plenty of sleep, waking naturally and drinking plenty of water each day. Alcohol is a treat and not a habit. To make these lifestyle changes a reality, I didn’t do it all at once. Instead, I created an action plan that consisted of one healthy change per week. I started my plan with a commitment to walk at least 4 times per week and build from there. Next, I…

Non-Surgical Facelift vs Surgical Facelift: What’s the Difference?

Any discussion about how to treat facial changes must begin with an understanding of the primary cause of sagging and folding skin. As we age, the shape of our face changes due to the loss/erosion of the supportive structures below the skin. These supporting structures, known as the Foundation, consist of bone, muscle, connective tissue, and fat. The loss of these supportive structures causes a hollowing effect below the skin, and the appearance of facial folds and sagging on the skin. The options to repair this condition are either a surgical facelift or a non-surgical BaseLift. Facelift – The Surgical Option The surgical option reshapes the face by cutting the skin and moving the tissues. The procedure permanently removes and repositions the skin and tissues of the face in an effort to reduce the appearance of sagging skin on the face. The skin is cut and stretched over the hollow…

My Lips Are Shrinking – Is This Real?

Yes, as we age, our lips shrink. They lose their plumpness, becoming both thinner and longer. Why does this happen? Straight and simple, the cause is related to the aging process. As the rest of our body feels the effects of hormone changes so do our lips. Though more prevalent in women, men also experience shrinking lips. Typically, between our late teens and early twenties, our hormonal levels increase, adding plumpness to our lips. However, like anything else all good lips must come to an end and after hitting peak levels our hormones start to decrease and our lips become longer and thinner resulting in a deflated droopy appearance. As you may have figured out from the media, a remedy for this lip shrinking phenomena is dermal filler injections. However, what the media and many inexperienced injectors usually ignore is effective treatment is a complete approach. Effective treatment of shrinking…

Why Hollowed Temples Make You Look Older: The Facts About Treating This Overlooked and Important Area with Injectable Fillers

I’ve had my eye bags, nasolabial folds and cheeks treated with dermal fillers but my face still looks tired. Why? One reason that for continuing to appear tired is that your temples may not have been addressed in any of your treatments. The temple area, defined by the depth between the bone and the skin, is among the thickest areas of tissue on the face. As we age, the connective tissue and fat in this area atrophies, resulting in a hollowed, tired appearance. People who have had facial surgery or are very thin are at particularly high risk of having hollowed temples. Unfortunately, many aesthetic medical specialists do not include the temples as part of their treatment plan, focusing instead on specific areas that patients complain about. When you treat only these isolated areas, not only are the temples neglected but their hollowness also becomes more noticeable. Addressing the temples…

Eye Bag Treatments: Cosmetic Fillers or Surgery?

You’ve read all the opinions online and are still can’t decide: What’s the best treatment for under eye bags? Surgery or Cosmetic Fillers? Let’s begin here. The most common cause of under eye bags is the loss of support underneath the skin in the area below the eyes, resulting in a hollowing effect and under eye creases. Now that we understand the cause, the question is ‘What is the best way to restore lost support?’ While I cannot tell you which option is right for you, I can provide the facts of each procedure so you can decide for yourself. The surgical procedure for under eye bags and creases is called blepharoplasty. During the procedure, skin is cut and tissue or even fat or muscle is removed. The goal of the surgical procedure is to the stretch and pull the skin to cover the loss of support in the under-eye…
